Simple Winter Tablescape

Simple Winter Tablescape

Tyler and I absolutely love throwing dinner parties!
Making food, inviting our friends and families, and making that perfect playlist.
But the thing that we love most is setting the table!

I come from a Latino background where the table is the most important place in our home, the heart of conversations, and the place where I hold many dear memories.
When I first met Tyler, dinnertime was over as soon as the last piece of food was in his mouth … and if you have ever seen Tyler eat, you know he is speedy!
But my family and I have shown Tyler the ropes and now he can spend ALMOST as much time as me around the table ;)

On this lovely Saturday we have a very simple and beautiful tablescape that we hope you will make your own this month during a dinner party, date night, or dinner with all of the family!
We promise it will add magic and joy to your dinner time!

We knew that because our table is so small we would not be able to do a large tablescape, so this is what dinner looks like for two.

Our inspiration for this table spread was simplicity, earthy, and organic.
While winter is cold your table does not need to feel so. We reached for items that added a “wintery” feel but kept the snow and wind outside.
Also keep in mind that me and Tyler live on a very strict budget. (If you are interested in seeing our crazy spreadsheets and learning more about our weekly finance councils, let us know and we promise we will do an in-depth lesson on that!) So everything that we do tends to be on the frugal side, such as our tablescapes.
Most of the items used on this tablescape were thrifted! (I promise that I will give tips on how and where to find the best items for your table in a future Thrift Thursday!)

So here is what we put on our table, keep scrolling to see all the pictures of the items:

  • Large white tablecloth - Okay, confession time, this is not a tablecloth … This is a very large piece of fabric I found at Saver’s for a few bucks but have used it as a background, tablecloth, and curtain! - Saver’s

  • Large piece of burlap: If I ever find burlap that is large enough for a table, I purchase it! It always adds such a unique and beautiful touch to a table. - Hobby Lobby

  • 2 large dinner plates that have a brown stripe around them - Saver’s

  • 2 small salad plates on top, they have a very subtle but cute floral pattern - Saver’s

  • 2 large wine glasses, me and Tyler love to feel fancy - Saver’s

  • 3 napkins: these amazing napkins have a blue stripe around them and they are so great! I got lucky and was able to thrift four of them! The third napkin we placed in the back of the table to add a little more texture - Saver’s

  • Forks and knives - Ikea

  • 2 glass water bottles: I literally bought 10 of these! They are so cheap! - Dollar Tree

  • 3 gold candlesticks: I got all three of these more than 5 years ago and I use them all the time! If you ever see gold candlesticks, BUY THEM! - Saver’s

  • Small and medium pieces of sliced wood: Now this one is getting easier and easier to find because the look is becoming more popular! My father had his friend slice this wood for our wedding and I have kept a bunch of them and continue to use them. But nowadays you can find these at Target, Hobby Lobby, Jo-Ann’s, etc. I love to use these for presenting charcuterie, adding height to a table, or placing under the serving plates.

  • Candles: tall and short - Dollar Tree

  • Vase - D.I.

  • Baby’s Breath - Smith’s

We decided to photograph the items we used so you guys could see all of them! As mentioned before, most of these items were thrifted!

Neutral tones, golds, and some blue looks soooo great! Do you like it?

It's really helpful to play around with your table before you commit to a look. Especially if you are decorating a larger table. Take pictures too to see what it looks like from all perspectives.

More glassware will add a touch of simplicity, while the gold will add a touch of fancy!

Wood is a necessity if you are looking for an organic feel to your tablescapes!

Now I did the math and all of these items were about $35!
You guys!
Thrifting will save you!
But how beautiful a table can be for so cheap!

We hope that this will inspire you to try something new with your table this week!

Like always, we want to see you put a twist on our table! Take a picture and tag us in it @thewandryway!
